Camouflage training for Missouri artists

Missouri has two big metro markets at opposite ends of the state. St. Louis has large academic hospitals and a long tattoo tradition, from South City studios to the suburbs of St. Louis County. Kansas City's studios and med spas serve clients on both sides of the state line. Springfield, Columbia and Joplin add strong regional markets. In all of them, camouflage for scars and stretch marks is still a specialist skill few artists can offer with confidence.

The SKINEAV 1:1 Zoom course teaches it in private live sessions with Evelyn. You learn how to assess a scar, mix custom skin-toned pigment, work safely on healed scar tissue and talk to clients honestly about what camouflage can and cannot do.

Tuition: $2,997 USD for the live online 1:1 Zoom course taught from Canada, or $3,697 USD with the training kit shipped to the US. Payment plans are available, e.g. $500 deposit + 3 x $999. See the US course page for what is included.

How tattooist licensing works in Missouri

Missouri licenses tattooists at the state level. The Office of Tattooing, Body Piercing and Branding, part of the Division of Professional Registration, issues practitioner licenses to individuals and separate licenses to establishments, under RSMo 324.520 and the related statutes. Missouri law defines tattooing as making an indelible mark by inserting pigment under the skin.

At a high level, an applicant submits a notarized application with proof of bloodborne pathogen training and first aid and CPR, plus one route to experience: an apprenticeship of at least 300 documented hours including 50 completed procedures under a licensed supervisor, a 300-hour course at a licensed or accredited school plus documented procedures, or documented prior practice. Rules are in 20 CSR 2267-2.010.

Camouflage places pigment under the skin, so confirm with the Office which license covers it before you take clients. The SKINEAV Certificate of Completion is proof of training. It is not a Missouri license, and it is not a 300-hour licensed school course.

Where Missouri camouflage clients are

  • St. Louis: the Central West End, Clayton, Ladue, Chesterfield and St. Charles, near major teaching hospitals
  • Kansas City: the Plaza, Waldo, Lee's Summit and the Northland, with many clients who also look across the line into Kansas
  • Springfield and Branson: the Ozarks' largest market, with few camouflage specialists
  • Columbia and Jefferson City: a university and hospital town plus the capital

Common requests include surgical scars after abdominal and breast surgery and stretch marks after pregnancy or weight loss. Read stretch marks after weight loss and which scars can be camouflaged.

What Missouri artists ask before enrolling

"I'm licensed in Kansas but want to work in Missouri too. Does one license cover both?" No. Each state sets its own rules. Missouri offers paths such as reciprocity for some out-of-state licenses, but check with the Office before working there.

"Can this course count toward Missouri's 300-hour course route?" No. That route refers to a course at a school licensed or accredited by a state or federal agency. SKINEAV's training is advanced specialist education with a Certificate of Completion.

"How long before I can offer camouflage to clients?" That depends on your licensing, your existing skill and how much you practise. Most artists spend weeks on practice skin and start with small, flat, fully healed scars.

Scheduling from Missouri

Missouri is on Central Time, one hour behind Toronto. A 10 a.m. session in St. Louis is 11 a.m. for Evelyn. Times are confirmed in writing in both zones.

What a training week can look like from Missouri

A typical week combines a theory session on undertone, scar assessment and contraindications with a live practice session on practice skin, where Evelyn corrects your hand position, depth and saturation on camera. Between sessions you mix swatches, build a screening and consent form and set up a photo station with consistent light.

Your first camouflage clients in Missouri

Most Missouri graduates start with clients who already know them, then build a small, consent-based portfolio before approaching surgeons and dermatologists in St. Louis or Kansas City. The course covers honest consultations and good record keeping. It does not promise clients or income.

How the course fits a Missouri beauty business

Licensed Missouri tattooists working in a licensed establishment can usually add camouflage as a new service, after confirming with the Office.

The course covers the full basics of camouflage, learning on practice skin, theory, machine and ink, pigment chemistry basics, and the business side: finding your audience, building a pricing strategy you set yourself, and spacing sessions properly. You can add the training kit, you receive a SKINEAV Certificate of Completion, and you get six months of mentorship with Evelyn afterwards. It does not promise clients or income. It gives you a skill, a method and someone to ask when a real case comes in.

See the US course overview for the full curriculum and format.

Licensing note: the SKINEAV Certificate of Completion shows you finished Evelyn's training. It is not a state license, permit or registration. Before you tattoo anyone in the US, check and follow the rules of your state, county and city.
