Camouflage training for Alabama artists

Alabama's beauty industry is spread across several strong cities rather than one big one. Birmingham is a major medical centre, with a university hospital system that draws patients from across the state. Huntsville is one of the fastest-growing cities in the South. Mobile, Montgomery and Tuscaloosa each have busy brow, lip and tattoo studios. Yet camouflage for scars and stretch marks remains a specialty very few artists offer.

The SKINEAV 1:1 Zoom course teaches Alabama artists the full process in private live sessions with Evelyn: assessing whether a scar is healed and suitable, custom colour matching for fair to deep skin, safe technique on scar tissue, and a consultation that sets honest expectations from the start.

Tuition: $2,997 USD for the live online 1:1 Zoom course taught from Canada, or $3,697 USD with the training kit shipped to the US. Payment plans are available, e.g. $500 deposit + 3 x $999. See the US course page for what is included.

How body art permits work in Alabama

Alabama regulates body art statewide through the Alabama Department of Public Health. Its Body Art Program issues a body art operator permit to people who perform procedures and a facility license to the studio, salon or spa where they work. The department's definition of body art explicitly includes permanent makeup such as microblading, alongside tattooing, branding and piercing.

At a high level, an operator must be employed at a facility licensed by the department, complete an application, show proof of an approved bloodborne pathogen training course, and provide proof of the hepatitis B vaccination series or a signed declination. The department is clear that procedures may not be performed from home. Professional standards, from gloves and hand washing to client consent, are set out in Rule 420-3-23-.03, and county health departments handle facility licensing locally.

Confirm with your county health department that your permit and facility cover camouflage before you offer it. The SKINEAV Certificate of Completion is proof of training. It is not an Alabama operator permit.

Where Alabama camouflage clients are

  • Birmingham: Mountain Brook, Homewood, Vestavia Hills and Hoover, near one of the South's largest medical centres
  • Huntsville and Madison: a fast-growing, well-educated market with engineering and military families
  • Mobile and the Gulf Coast: Mobile, Daphne and Fairhope, where sun exposure shapes colour planning
  • Montgomery: the capital, with military families near Maxwell Air Force Base
  • Tuscaloosa and Auburn: university towns with few camouflage specialists

Many Alabama clients have brown and deep skin tones. Read camouflage on deeper skin tones and stretch marks on dark skin.

What Alabama artists ask before enrolling

"I work at a salon that does microblading. Is that enough for camouflage?" Ask your county health department. In Alabama the facility license and your operator permit both matter, and body camouflage may need equipment and space beyond what a brow room has.

"Can I do camouflage as a mobile service?" The department says body art procedures must be performed in a licensed facility, not at home, so plan to work from a licensed location.

"Most of my clients have deep skin. Will the course cover that?" Yes. Matching brown and deep skin tones, and recognising scars that should not be treated, are central parts of the training.

Scheduling from Alabama

Alabama is on Central Time, one hour behind Toronto. Some communities near the Georgia line informally follow Eastern Time, so session times are always confirmed in writing in both zones.

What a training week can look like from Alabama

A typical week has one theory session on undertone, scar assessment and when to refer to a doctor, and one live practice session on practice skin while Evelyn watches on camera and corrects your technique. Between sessions you build a consultation form, a disclosure and consent process and an aftercare sheet suited to a licensed Alabama facility.

Your first camouflage clients in Alabama

Most Alabama graduates start with clients who already know them, build a small portfolio with written consent, then introduce the service to dermatologists and plastic surgeons in Birmingham, Huntsville or Mobile. The course covers how to talk about camouflage honestly, without promising results.

How the course fits a Alabama beauty business

Alabama artists who already hold an operator permit at a licensed facility can usually add camouflage as a new specialist service, after checking with their county health department.

The course covers the full basics of camouflage, learning on practice skin, theory, machine and ink, pigment chemistry basics, and the business side: finding your audience, building a pricing strategy you set yourself, and spacing sessions properly. You can add the training kit, you receive a SKINEAV Certificate of Completion, and you get six months of mentorship with Evelyn afterwards. It does not promise clients or income. It gives you a skill, a method and someone to ask when a real case comes in.

See the US course overview for the full curriculum and format.

Licensing note: the SKINEAV Certificate of Completion shows you finished Evelyn's training. It is not a state license, permit or registration. Before you tattoo anyone in the US, check and follow the rules of your state, county and city.
