Camouflage training for Ohio artists

Ohio has three large metro areas and a long list of mid-sized cities, and each has its own beauty economy. Columbus is young and growing fast, with brow and lash studios in the Short North and the suburbs. Cleveland and Cincinnati are major medical centres, home to some of the best-known hospital systems in the country, and with them come many patients living with surgical scars. Toledo, Akron, Dayton and Youngstown have busy tattoo scenes but very few camouflage specialists.

That gap is where a well-trained camouflage artist can stand out. The SKINEAV 1:1 Zoom course teaches Ohio artists the full process: reading a scar's colour, texture and age, deciding if it is ready, mixing pigment that matches each client and building colour slowly over more than one session. The training is live and private with Evelyn, not a pre-recorded course.

Tuition: $2,997 USD for the live online 1:1 Zoom course taught from Canada, or $3,697 USD with the training kit shipped to the US. Payment plans are available, e.g. $500 deposit + 3 x $999. See the US course page for what is included.

How body art approval works in Ohio

Ohio regulates tattooing and body piercing through Ohio Revised Code Chapter 3730 and the Ohio Department of Health's rules in Ohio Administrative Code Chapter 3701-9. Instead of a single statewide artist license, the law requires a business that offers tattooing to be approved by the board of health of the city or general health district where it operates.

At a high level, approval involves an application, local fees, facility plans and an inspection before the business opens. Approval runs for a set period and must be renewed, and it is not transferable to a new owner or location. The state rules set the standards for sterilization, infection control, client records and consent. Each local health district publishes its own forms and may add its own requirements.

Ask your local health district how camouflage fits within the approved services at the business where you work before you take clients. The SKINEAV Certificate of Completion is proof of training, not an Ohio approval or license.

What Ohio artists ask before enrolling

"My health district approved our studio for tattooing. Do I need anything else for camouflage?" Ask the district directly. Approvals list the business and the services it provides, and some districts ask about permanent cosmetics separately. A short call before you start saves trouble later.

"Ohio winters are long and pale. Does that affect colour matching?" Yes. Skin around a scar can look very different in February than in August. The course covers how to read undertones rather than surface colour, how to plan sessions around seasonal tanning, and why a slightly lighter, conservative match is often safer.

"Can I learn if I only have a few hours a week?" Yes. Sessions are one-on-one and booked around your schedule, and you get six months of mentorship after the course for real cases.

Scheduling from Ohio

All of Ohio is on Eastern Time, the same as Evelyn in Toronto, so there is no time difference at all. A 10 a.m. session is 10 a.m. for both of you, and daylight saving changes on the same dates. Cleveland and Toledo are also a short flight from Toronto, though you never need to travel: everything is on Zoom.

What a training week can look like from Ohio

Many Ohio students book two sessions a week. The first covers theory and colour, such as undertones, how scar tissue takes pigment and how to choose depth. The second is guided practice on practice skin with Evelyn watching your hand position, speed and saturation live on camera. Homework between sessions is practical: mixing exercises, a consultation script and a photo setup you will use for every client.

Your first camouflage clients in Ohio

Ohio's big hospital systems mean many people live with surgical scars, but your first clients usually come from people who already know you. Start by telling existing brow, lip or tattoo clients about the new service, build a small portfolio with consent and consistent photos, and only then approach surgeons or physical therapists. The course covers how to present your work honestly, without promising results.

How the course fits a Ohio beauty business

Because Ohio approval sits with the business and its local health district, most students add camouflage within a studio or med spa that is already approved, which is the simplest place to start.

The course covers the full basics of camouflage, learning on practice skin, theory, machine and ink, pigment chemistry basics, and the business side: finding your audience, building a pricing strategy you set yourself, and spacing sessions properly. You can add the training kit, you receive a SKINEAV Certificate of Completion, and you get six months of mentorship with Evelyn afterwards. It does not promise clients or income. It gives you a skill, a method and someone to ask when a real case comes in.

See the US course overview for the full curriculum and format.

Licensing note: the SKINEAV Certificate of Completion shows you finished Evelyn's training. It is not a state license, permit or registration. Before you tattoo anyone in the US, check and follow the rules of your state, county and city.
