Camouflage training for Louisiana artists

Louisiana has a tattoo culture all its own. New Orleans studios draw artists and clients from around the world, and Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Lake Charles and Shreveport each have loyal local scenes. Permanent makeup has grown quickly too, from brow studios in Metairie and Mandeville to med spas in Baton Rouge. What remains rare is an artist who can take a healed surgical scar or a patch of stretch marks and blend it with a custom skin-toned colour.

The SKINEAV 1:1 Zoom course teaches exactly that, in private live sessions with Evelyn. You learn how to read a scar's colour, texture and age, decide honestly whether it can be improved, mix pigment for the full range of Louisiana skin tones, and build colour gradually on tissue that holds pigment differently from healthy skin.

Tuition: $2,997 USD for the live online 1:1 Zoom course taught from Canada, or $3,697 USD with the training kit shipped to the US. Payment plans are available, e.g. $500 deposit + 3 x $999. See the US course page for what is included.

How Commercial Body Art rules work in Louisiana

Louisiana regulates tattooing at the state level through the Louisiana Department of Health. Its Commercial Body Art program, run by the Sanitarian Services section under Part XXVIII of the state Sanitary Code, covers tattooing, body piercing and permanent cosmetics. At a high level, individual artists register as body art operators with the department and the facility where they work must be registered and pass inspection. Applicants supply current CPR, first aid and bloodborne pathogen training records along with identification.

Because permanent cosmetics are included in the program, PMU artists are not outside the rules, and camouflage, which also places pigment into the skin, should be treated the same way. Parish-level offices of the department carry out inspections, so your local sanitarian is a good person to ask about anything specific to your studio.

Confirm with the department which registration covers the camouflage work you plan to offer before you take clients. The SKINEAV Certificate of Completion is proof that you finished Evelyn's training. It is not a Louisiana registration.

Where Louisiana camouflage clients are

  • New Orleans and the Northshore: Uptown, the Garden District, Metairie, Kenner, Mandeville and Covington, with major hospitals and many cosmetic practices
  • Baton Rouge: the capital and a large medical hub with a strong PMU community
  • Acadiana: Lafayette and the surrounding parishes, where word of mouth matters more than ads
  • Shreveport and Bossier City: the state's northwest, including military families near Barksdale
  • Lake Charles and Monroe: smaller markets with very few camouflage specialists

Louisiana clients span every skin tone, and many ask about surgical, burn and injury scars. Read dark scars and camouflage and the burn scar camouflage guide to see why assessment comes first.

What Louisiana artists ask before enrolling

"I'm already a registered operator. Do I need anything new?" Ask the department whether your current registration covers camouflage at your facility. In most cases the change is a new service, not a new license type, but only the department can confirm that.

"Humidity and heat are intense here. Does that affect healing?" Heat, sweat and sun all matter during healing. The course covers aftercare advice for hot, humid climates and how to time sessions so you can judge the healed colour fairly.

"Can camouflage cover hyperpigmented scars on deep skin?" Sometimes, and sometimes not. Dark scars on deep skin need very careful colour choices, and some are better left alone or referred to a dermatologist. Evelyn teaches you how to tell the difference.

Scheduling from Louisiana

Louisiana is on Central Time, one hour behind Evelyn in Toronto. A 9 a.m. session in New Orleans is 10 a.m. for Evelyn. Times are always confirmed in writing in both zones, and daylight saving changes on the same dates.

What a training week can look like from Louisiana

Many Louisiana students book one theory session on colour, undertone and scar assessment and one live practice session on practice skin each week. Evelyn watches your angle, depth and saturation on camera and corrects them in real time. Between sessions you mix test swatches for the skin tones you see most and draft consent and aftercare forms suited to a registered body art facility.

Your first camouflage clients in Louisiana

Louisiana runs on relationships. Most graduates begin with clients who already trust them, build a small portfolio with written consent, then introduce the service to dermatologists, plastic surgeons and wound care nurses. The course covers how to explain camouflage honestly, without promising results, and how to decline a case that is not a good candidate.

How the course fits a Louisiana beauty business

Most Louisiana students add camouflage inside a registered facility where they already work as an operator, so the main change is a new specialist service and a new kind of consultation.

The course covers the full basics of camouflage, learning on practice skin, theory, machine and ink, pigment chemistry basics, and the business side: finding your audience, building a pricing strategy you set yourself, and spacing sessions properly. You can add the training kit, you receive a SKINEAV Certificate of Completion, and you get six months of mentorship with Evelyn afterwards. It does not promise clients or income. It gives you a skill, a method and someone to ask when a real case comes in.

See the US course overview for the full curriculum and format.

Licensing note: the SKINEAV Certificate of Completion shows you finished Evelyn's training. It is not a state license, permit or registration. Before you tattoo anyone in the US, check and follow the rules of your state, county and city.
