Paramedical camouflage course for California artists, live 1:1 on Zoom
One-on-one scar and stretch mark camouflage training on Zoom for artists in Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego, the Bay Area and Sacramento. Live with Evelyn, scheduled for Pacific Time.

Camouflage training for California artists
California is the biggest aesthetics market in the US. Los Angeles and Orange County alone have more cosmetic surgeons, med spas and permanent makeup artists than most states. Clients there are often well informed: many have already heard of scar camouflage and are looking for an artist who can do it well on their skin tone.
That raises the bar. California clients compare portfolios. The SKINEAV 1:1 Zoom course focuses on what makes camouflage look natural: custom colour matching, careful technique on scar tissue and realistic expectations at the consultation.
Tuition: $2,997 USD for the live online 1:1 Zoom course taught from Canada, or $3,697 USD with the training kit shipped to the US. Payment plans are available, e.g. $500 deposit + 3 x $999. See the US course page for what is included.
How body art registration works in California
California regulates tattooing, permanent cosmetics and other body art through the Safe Body Art Act (Health and Safety Code section 119306 and following). The law is state-wide, but it is enforced by the local environmental health agency in each county or city.
At a high level, section 119306 says a practitioner must be registered with the local enforcement agency, perform body art only in a permitted facility, show proof of hepatitis B vaccination or immunity (or a valid declination), complete bloodborne pathogen training, and be at least 18. Registration is renewed every year. Counties publish their own steps and fees, for example San Diego County's body art program and Santa Clara County's practitioner registration.
A registration from one California jurisdiction only covers short periods in another, so register where you actually work. The SKINEAV Certificate of Completion is proof of training. It is not a California registration and does not replace one.
Real training moments

Where California camouflage clients are
- Los Angeles and Orange County: the largest cosmetic surgery market in the country and a huge range of skin tones
- San Diego: a strong PMU community and military families, including clients with injury scars
- San Francisco Bay Area and San Jose: clients who research carefully and expect detailed consultations
- Sacramento and the Central Valley: fewer specialists and room for a new service
California clients often ask about stretch marks, C-section and tummy tuck scars, and lighter patches. Learn more in vitiligo camouflage for artists.

Questions California artists ask before training
"My clients already know what they want. How do I set expectations?" In California, many clients arrive having watched videos of dramatic before-and-after results. The course spends time on the consultation: explaining that camouflage blends and softens rather than erases, that more than one session is usually needed, and that some scars are not good candidates. Saying no to the wrong case protects your reputation.
"How do I stand out among so many PMU artists?" Specialisation. Few artists can match pigment confidently on deep, olive and very fair skin. That skill, and a portfolio that shows it with consistent photography, is what clients compare. The course covers both.
"Can I combine this with work in a medical practice?" Some students work in plastic surgery offices or med spas. Check with your county about how body art registration applies in that setting before you offer camouflage there.
Scheduling from California
California is on Pacific Time, three hours behind Evelyn in Toronto. Most California students train in their morning: a 9 a.m. session in Los Angeles is noon in Toronto. That keeps your afternoons free for clients. Times are confirmed in writing in both time zones.
How the course fits a California PMU or tattoo business
Because the Safe Body Art Act requires a permitted facility, most students add camouflage inside the studio or med spa where they are already registered. The course covers consultation, photography, session spacing and how to set your own prices in a competitive market. It does not promise clients or income. It gives you technique, colour skills and six months of mentorship.
See the US course overview for the full curriculum.
Licensing note: the SKINEAV Certificate of Completion shows you finished Evelyn's training. It is not a state license, permit or registration. Before you tattoo anyone in the US, check and follow the rules of your state, county and city.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to register to do camouflage tattooing in California?
Under the Safe Body Art Act, body art practitioners, including permanent cosmetics, must register with their local enforcement agency and work in a permitted facility. Check your county environmental health department.
Does the SKINEAV certificate count as California registration?
No. It shows you completed the training. Registration is handled by your county or city environmental health agency.
What time are sessions for California students?
California is three hours behind Toronto. Most students train in their morning, which is early afternoon for Evelyn.
Does the bloodborne pathogen training come with the course?
No. California requires OSHA-compliant bloodborne pathogen training from an approved provider. Check your county's list of approved trainers.
Is the course live?
Yes. It is live, one-on-one with Evelyn on Zoom, with six months of mentorship afterwards.
