Camouflage training for Mississippi artists

Mississippi's beauty market is spread across several regional centres. Jackson and its suburbs in Ridgeland, Madison and Flowood are home to the state's academic medical centre and many specialist practices. The Gulf Coast, from Gulfport to Biloxi and Ocean Springs, has a busy beauty scene and plenty of visitors. Hattiesburg, Oxford, Tupelo and Starkville add hospital and university markets, and Southaven and Olive Branch sit inside the Memphis metro. Mississippi also has one of the largest shares of clients with brown and deep skin tones in the country, so careful colour matching matters even more here.

The SKINEAV 1:1 Zoom course teaches Mississippi artists scar and stretch mark assessment, custom colour matching for every skin tone and safe technique on healed scar tissue, in private live sessions with Evelyn.

Tuition: $2,997 USD for the live online 1:1 Zoom course taught from Canada, or $3,697 USD with the training kit shipped to the US. Payment plans are available, e.g. $500 deposit + 3 x $999. See the US course page for what is included.

How tattoo and permanent makeup registration works in Mississippi

Mississippi requires a Certificate of Registration from the Mississippi State Department of Health for anyone who tattoos for compensation. The department's tattooing and body piercing regulations, listed on its regulations page, separate "Regular" and "Provisional" registrations, and the registration names both the artist and the registered establishment where they work.

Permanent makeup has its own path. At a high level, an applicant for a provisional permanent makeup registration must be over 18, complete the American Red Cross "Preventing Disease Transmission" course or a course the department accepts, and work under the direct on-site supervision of a regular registrant at a registered establishment for at least six months (Rule 11.3.3). A regular registration generally follows a supervised provisional period, or documented registration in another state within the previous 18 months.

Ask the department which registration covers camouflage on the body before you offer it. The SKINEAV Certificate of Completion is proof of training. It is not a Mississippi registration, and it does not replace supervised provisional time.

Where Mississippi camouflage clients are

  • Jackson metro: Ridgeland, Madison, Flowood and Brandon, close to the state's main medical centre
  • Gulf Coast: Gulfport, Biloxi, Ocean Springs and Bay St. Louis, a busy beauty market with many visitors
  • Hattiesburg: a regional medical and university city in the south
  • North Mississippi: Oxford, Tupelo and Starkville, plus Southaven and Olive Branch in the Memphis metro

Many Mississippi clients have brown and deep skin tones. Read stretch marks on dark skin and dark scars and camouflage.

What Mississippi artists ask before enrolling

"I hold a provisional permanent makeup registration. Can I take the course?" Yes, you can learn at any stage, but client work stays within your provisional registration and under your supervising regular registrant. Talk to your supervisor before taking camouflage clients.

"I work in a doctor's office. Do the same rules apply?" Mississippi's rules include a route for people employed in a physician's office and acting under a Mississippi-licensed physician's direct orders, but they also say you would need a provisional registration if you later open your own establishment. Confirm your situation with the department.

"Most of my clients have deep skin. Will that be covered?" Yes. Undertone, colour matching on brown and deep skin, and recognising scars that should not be treated are central to the training.

Scheduling from Mississippi

Mississippi is on Central Time, one hour behind Toronto. A 10 a.m. session in Jackson is 11 a.m. for Evelyn. Session times are confirmed in writing in both zones.

What a training week can look like from Mississippi

A typical week mixes one theory session on undertone and scar assessment, often focused on brown and deep skin, with one live practice session on practice skin while Evelyn watches on camera. Between sessions you build a consultation form, a consent process and a photo setup that shows skin tones accurately.

Your first camouflage clients in Mississippi

Most Mississippi graduates start with clients who already trust them, build a small, consent-based portfolio, and then introduce the service to dermatologists, plastic surgeons and OB-GYNs in Jackson, Hattiesburg and on the Coast. The course covers honest consultations and record keeping, and never promises results.

How the course fits a Mississippi beauty business

Mississippi artists who already hold the right MSDH registration and work at a registered establishment can usually add camouflage as a new specialist service, after confirming with the department.

The course covers the full basics of camouflage, learning on practice skin, theory, machine and ink, pigment chemistry basics, and the business side: finding your audience, building a pricing strategy you set yourself, and spacing sessions properly. You can add the training kit, you receive a SKINEAV Certificate of Completion, and you get six months of mentorship with Evelyn afterwards. It does not promise clients or income. It gives you a skill, a method and someone to ask when a real case comes in.

See the US course overview for the full curriculum and format.

Licensing note: the SKINEAV Certificate of Completion shows you finished Evelyn's training. It is not a state license, permit or registration. Before you tattoo anyone in the US, check and follow the rules of your state, county and city.
