How to become a camouflage artist in Ontario
A practical, Ontario-specific roadmap: from choosing training to passing your public health inspection and booking your first clients.

This is a general guide, not legal advice. Rules are set and inspected by your local public health unit, so always confirm with them.
1. Choose hands-on training
Look for a course with real hours on a machine, supervised work on live models and someone to ask once you start. Compare options with how to choose a paramedical tattoo course.
“In the beginning, your portfolio is everything. People need to see your work before they trust you with their skin.”
Evelyn Alvares Vega, SKINEAV Academy
2. Learn infection prevention and control
Ontario regulates personal service settings, including tattooing, under public health rules. Your local public health unit inspects premises. Read paramedical tattoo rules in Ontario.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a licence to do camouflage tattooing in Ontario?
Tattooing is regulated as a personal service setting and inspected by your local public health unit. Confirm requirements with them before opening.
Is a course certificate a licence?
No. A course certificate shows you trained; public health requirements for your premises are separate.
How long does it take to start?
Training itself can be a few days, but setting up a compliant space, insurance and a portfolio takes longer. Plan for months, not days.
