Self-harm scar camouflage, privately and without judgement

If you are ready to see your arms, legs or wrists differently, camouflage tattooing can soften the colour contrast of healed scars. Here is how it works at SKINEAV, at your pace.

Self-harm scars at SKINEAV, Vaughan

Many people who come to me with self-harm scars tell me the same thing: they are not ashamed of what they lived through, they are just tired of being asked about it. Long sleeves in July, avoiding the pool, choosing clothes around a few lines on the skin. Camouflage does not erase your history. It can make the scars less noticeable so that you decide when and whether to talk about them.

What scar camouflage actually does

Healed self-harm scars usually settle lighter than the surrounding skin, often white or silvery. That contrast is what catches the eye. In camouflage tattooing I place a pigment I mix for your skin tone into the scar, so the colour difference becomes smaller. It works on colour, not texture: a raised scar stays raised, and a dented scar keeps its shape. The goal is less contrast, not invisibility.

“We don’t fix texture, we fix color.”

Evelyn Alvares Vega, founder of SKINEAV

Is it right for your scars?

Often a good fit

  • Scars that are fully healed and have been stable for a long time
  • Flat or nearly flat scars that are lighter than your skin
  • Several parallel lines on the forearm, upper arm or thigh

Worth waiting or checking first

  • Scars that are still pink, red, itchy or changing
  • Raised, thick or keloid scars, which I assess very carefully and may not treat
  • Any open, irritated or recently injured skin in the area

If you are currently going through a hard time, please put your wellbeing first and reach out to someone you trust or a health professional. Camouflage can wait, and I will still be here.

Your first conversation

You do not need to explain anything you do not want to. Most clients start by sending a photo on WhatsApp or booking a free phone consult. I will tell you honestly whether I think camouflage will help, and if I think it will not, I will say so. If you come to the clinic, the consultation is one-on-one in a private room, and I will test a colour on your skin so we can both see how it blends.

What a session is like

The appointment is just you and me. Scar tissue can feel different from normal skin: some areas feel less, some feel a little more. Most people describe a light scratching feeling. We take breaks whenever you want. Afterwards, the area may look darker or pinker for a short while before it settles over the following weeks. Many clients need more than one session, spaced several weeks apart, because scar tissue can hold pigment unevenly.

How long it lasts

Camouflage pigment softens gradually over time, and sun exposure speeds that up. Some clients come back for a touch-up later. Protecting the area from the sun is the single best thing you can do for your result. Read the aftercare guide before your appointment.

Cost

Every scar is different, so there is no fixed price list. The phone consult and photo assessment are free. The in-clinic consultation is $50 plus HST and is credited to your treatment if you go ahead. You will know the price for your case before you decide anything.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to explain how I got my scars?

No. You can share as much or as little as you like. I only need to see the skin to assess it.

Can camouflage make self-harm scars disappear?

No technique can promise that. Camouflage reduces the colour contrast so the scars can look less noticeable. Texture does not change.

Can raised self-harm scars be camouflaged?

Raised, thick or keloid scars need careful assessment and are not always suitable. Flat, pale scars usually respond best.

Is the appointment private?

Yes. Every session is one-on-one with Evelyn in a private room at the Vaughan clinic.
