Raised vs flat scars: which ones camouflage can help
Camouflage works on colour. Whether your scar is flat, raised or dented decides how much that colour change will show.

When I assess a scar, colour is only half the story. The other half is shape. A perfectly matched pigment on a flat scar can blend beautifully. The same pigment on a raised ridge still leaves a ridge that catches the light.
Flat scars
Flat or nearly flat scars that are lighter than the surrounding skin are the classic camouflage case. Many surgical scars, C-section scars and old injury scars mature this way. Once the colour gap is reduced, there is little else for the eye to catch.
“We don’t fix texture, we fix color.”
Evelyn Alvares Vega, founder of SKINEAV
Slightly raised scars
Some scars sit a little above the skin but are soft and settled. These can sometimes still be camouflaged for colour, with honest expectations: the scar will be less noticeable in colour, but you will still feel and see the edge in side light.
Real results and real moments

Hypertrophic scars
Hypertrophic scars are raised, often red at first, and stay within the line of the original wound. Many flatten and fade over time. Until that happens, I do not treat them. If yours has been raised for a long time, a doctor or dermatologist is the right first step.
How it works at SKINEAV

- Assessment & colour testIn clinic, Evelyn checks your skin and tests a custom formula.
- TreatmentPigment placed precisely, only where it is needed, one-on-one.
- Heal & reviewThe colour settles over weeks; follow-ups are planned if needed.
Keloid scars
Keloids grow beyond the original wound. Tattooing involves small, controlled injuries to the skin, and for people prone to keloids that is a real concern. I am very careful here and often say no. Read more in keloid scars and tattooing.
Indented (atrophic) scars
Dented scars, such as some acne and chickenpox scars, show mostly because of shadow. Pigment does not fill a dent, so camouflage helps little unless there is also a colour difference. See acne scars and camouflage.
How to check your own scar
Look at it in side light from a window. If it casts a shadow or has a clear ridge, texture is part of what you see. Look at it in flat, even light. If it still stands out as a pale shape, colour is part of it too. Send me photos in both lights and I can give you a better first answer.
Frequently asked questions
Can a raised scar be camouflaged?
Some soft, settled, slightly raised scars can be treated for colour. Hypertrophic and keloid scars usually are not suitable.
Will camouflage flatten my scar?
No. Camouflage changes colour, not texture or height.
