Acne scars and camouflage: an honest answer
Some acne scars are a colour problem and some are a texture problem. Camouflage only helps with the first kind, so the right answer starts with knowing which you have.

Acne scarring is one of the most common things people ask me about, and it is one where I say "not a good fit" most often. That is not because I do not want to help. It is because most acne scars are about texture, and camouflage does not change texture.
Two different problems
- Texture scars: ice pick, boxcar and rolling scars are dents in the skin. They show because light casts shadows into them. Pigment cannot fill a shadow, so camouflage will not help these. A dermatologist is the right person to talk to.
- Colour marks: some healed acne areas, often on the back, chest or jawline, leave flat patches that are lighter than the skin around them. These can sometimes be softened with colour-matched pigment.
- Darker marks: brown or purple marks after breakouts are often temporary and fade with time and dermatological care. I do not add pigment to them.
“We don’t fix texture, we fix color.”

When I may suggest inkless work
For some light, flat texture irregularities on the body, inkless camouflage may be an option, assessed case by case. It does not use pigment. It is not a treatment for deep facial acne scarring.
Real results and real moments

Face versus body
Facial skin changes colour with sun, seasons and flushing more than most body areas. That makes a lasting colour match harder. I assess facial marks very carefully and often recommend the clinic route first. On the back and chest, flat pale marks are more predictable.

Before you book
Your skin should be clear of active breakouts in the area, and any treatment from a dermatologist should be finished or discussed with them first. Send me a photo in daylight, without makeup or filters, and I will tell you honestly whether camouflage could help.
Frequently asked questions
Can camouflage tattooing fix acne scars?
Only some. It can soften flat acne marks that are lighter than your skin. It does not fill pitted or rolling scars.
Do you treat facial acne scars?
They are assessed very carefully. Facial skin changes colour often, which makes a lasting match harder, so a dermatologist is often the better first step.
Can I be treated during a breakout?
No. The area must be clear and calm before any camouflage work.
What about dark spots left by acne?
Darker marks are not treated with pigment. Many fade with time and dermatological care.
