Your first consultation for self-harm scars: what really happens
Booking the consultation is often the hardest step. Here is exactly what it involves, so nothing about it is a surprise.

Many clients with self-harm scars tell me they thought about camouflage for years before they reached out. Some wrote a message and deleted it more than once. If that is you, it is completely normal. This article walks through the consultation step by step.
You can start without showing your face
You do not have to come in first. You can send a photo of the area on WhatsApp, or fill in the free photo assessment form. Only the skin needs to be in the photo. I reply with an honest first answer: whether camouflage is likely to help, or whether something else should come first.
“We don’t fix texture, we fix color.”
Evelyn Alvares Vega, founder of SKINEAV
What I will ask
- How long ago the scars healed, roughly
- Whether any of them are still pink, raised, itchy or changing
- Whether you have any skin or health conditions I should know about
- What you would like to feel when you look at the area
I will not ask how the scars happened. If you want to tell me, I will listen. If not, it does not change anything about the treatment.
Real results and real moments

At the clinic
The in-clinic consultation is one-on-one in a private room. I look at the scars in good light, check your skin tone and undertone, and test a small amount of colour so you can see how it sits against your skin. We talk about how many sessions may be needed and what result is realistic. You can bring someone with you if that helps.
How it works at SKINEAV

What "realistic" means
Camouflage reduces the colour difference between the scar and your skin. It does not change texture, and it does not make scars vanish. For many people, the goal is simply being able to wear a T-shirt without being asked questions. That is a goal camouflage can often support. Read more on the self-harm scar camouflage page.
If now is not the right time
If any area is not fully healed, or you are going through a hard period, we wait. Please look after yourself first and reach out to a health professional or someone you trust. There is no deadline on this.
