Scar and stretch mark camouflage: mistakes to avoid before you book
Most regrets with scar or stretch mark camouflage happen before the first needle: the wrong timing, the wrong expectations or the wrong artist. These are the mistakes Evelyn sees most often, and how to avoid each one.

1. Booking while the scar is still fresh
A scar that is still red, raised, tender or changing colour is not ready, and neither are red or purple stretch marks. Pigment placed too early can heal unpredictably. Wait until the scar is mature and follow your surgeon’s advice after surgery. See how long to wait with a fresh scar and red stretch marks.
2. Expecting the scar to disappear
Camouflage blends colour toward the skin around the scar. It does not erase, remove or flatten it — texture usually stays. If someone promises “gone” or a fixed percentage, walk away. Read does camouflage remove scars.
Real results and real moments

3. Choosing by the lowest price
A cheap first session that goes too dark or the wrong undertone can cost far more to deal with later. Compare what is included: a colour test on your skin, a healed review, and follow-ups. Use the price-shopping checklist.
4. Trusting fresh photos instead of healed ones
Fresh camouflage often looks perfect on camera and different weeks later. Ask for healed results on skin like yours, in daylight. More in how to choose a scar camouflage artist.
How it works at SKINEAV
- Photo or callSend a photo or book a free phone consult. Honest first answer.
- Assessment & colour testIn clinic, Evelyn checks your skin and tests a custom formula.
- TreatmentPigment placed precisely, only where it is needed, one-on-one.
- Heal & reviewThe colour settles over weeks; follow-ups are planned if needed.
5. Skipping the colour test
Your skin has its own tone and undertone, and it changes with the seasons. A colour chosen from a chart without testing on your skin is a gamble. At SKINEAV the colour is mixed for you and tested at the consultation.
6. Judging the result too early
On the day the area is pink and brighter; in weeks two to six many people worry it looks too light. That is part of healing. The real result is reviewed after about six weeks (healing timeline).
7. Tanning, or not protecting the area from the sun
Camouflage pigment does not tan. If the skin around it gets darker in summer, the contrast can return. Sun protection is the biggest factor in how long the result looks even (sun protection after camouflage).
8. Hiding your history
Tell the artist about laser, peels, steroid injections, previous tattoos or camouflage on the area, and medications that affect healing. It changes the plan, and sometimes the answer is “not yet.”
9. Trying to fix a bad result at home or rushing a redo
Creams, scrubs, home “removal” kits or rushing to another artist for more ink can make a too-dark or wrong-colour result harder to deal with. Wait until it has healed, then get an assessment with photos (too dark — what now).

Frequently asked questions
What is the biggest mistake with scar camouflage?
Booking too early on a scar that has not matured, and expecting the scar to disappear. Camouflage blends colour; it does not erase scars or change texture.
Can camouflage make a scar look worse?
It can if the timing, colour or technique is wrong — for example, colour that heals too dark. That is why a colour test, healed photos and a healed review matter.
Should I pick the cheapest scar camouflage clinic?
Price matters, but compare what is included: colour testing, healed review and follow-ups. A cheap result that needs correcting costs more.
How do I know if my scar is ready?
It should be closed, soft and no longer changing colour. Send daylight photos for a free assessment or call 437-475-2757.
