Laparoscopic, hernia and appendix scars: when camouflage may help
Keyhole surgery leaves small scars, but on the stomach, around the belly button or low on the groin they can still be the first thing you notice. Here is how I look at them.

Common scars from abdominal surgery
- Small laparoscopic (keyhole) port scars from gallbladder, appendix, gynaecological or weight-loss surgery
- Hernia repair scars in the groin or near the belly button
- Open appendix scars on the lower right side
For larger scars see abdominal surgery scars, and for the belly button area see belly button scar camouflage.
Which ones may suit camouflage
The best candidates are flat, fully healed scars that turned paler than the skin around them. Small round port scars that healed white often fit this description. Raised, red, tender or keloid scars usually are not suitable, and camouflage does not change texture.
Real results and real moments

How long to wait after surgery
Surgical scars keep changing for many months, and many need a year or more before the colour settles. If your scar is still pink or red, it is too early. Your surgeon is the right person to confirm that healing is complete. Read how long to wait after surgery.
Several small scars, one plan
Keyhole surgery often leaves three to five small scars. Because each one is small, they can often be planned together, after a colour test on one of them. You get a clear plan at your assessment.

Frequently asked questions
Can laparoscopic scars be camouflaged?
Small, flat, pale laparoscopic scars that are fully healed may suit camouflage. A colour test is done first.
Is a hernia scar suitable?
It depends on whether it is flat, pale and mature. Raised or still-changing scars usually are not suitable.
Is this a medical treatment?
No. Camouflage is a cosmetic tattoo technique that blends colour. It does not treat the scar or any medical condition.
Where is the clinic?
In Vaughan, serving Toronto and the GTA by appointment.
