Hygiene and infection prevention for camouflage artists
Clients trust you with broken skin. Your hygiene routine is part of your craft.

This is an overview. Follow the infection prevention requirements and guidance of your local public health unit; they are the authority for your setting.
Single-use where it matters
Sterile, single-use needle cartridges, opened in front of the client. Single-use pigment cups. Disposable gloves changed whenever they touch something outside the clean field.
“In the beginning, your portfolio is everything. People need to see your work before they trust you with their skin.”
Evelyn Alvares Vega, SKINEAV Academy
Barriers
Cover machines, cords and bottles that cannot be fully cleaned with single-use barriers, replaced for every client.

Records
Keep client records and records of your routines. They protect clients and your business.
Clients notice. Many will ask about hygiene before they book. A confident, specific answer builds trust immediately.
Setting up the clean field
Before the client sits down, lay out everything you need: cartridges, pigment cups, wipes, barrier film, gloves. Reaching into a drawer mid-procedure with a gloved hand is where cross-contamination happens. A good set-up is a habit you build until it is automatic.
Breakdown and cleaning
After the client leaves, dispose of sharps in an approved sharps container, remove barriers, discard single-use items, and clean surfaces in the order your written routine specifies. Do it the same way every time.
Talking to clients about hygiene
Many clients will ask. Show them: open the cartridge in front of them, explain your barriers, mention that your setting follows public health requirements. Calm, specific answers reassure people far more than general promises.
Training
Hygiene and safety are part of the SKINEAV curriculum, alongside consultation, consent and aftercare.
