Camouflage tattoo safety: questions to ask any clinic

A good clinic welcomes these questions. If any of them make an artist uncomfortable, that tells you something.

Safety questions to ask at SKINEAV, Vaughan

Camouflage tattooing places pigment in your skin, often on scar tissue. Safety is not a detail. Here are the questions I would ask if I were the client.

Hygiene and setting

  • Are needles and cartridges single-use and opened in front of you?
  • How are surfaces and equipment cleaned between clients?
  • Is the setting a personal service setting that follows local public health requirements? In Ontario these are inspected by local public health units. See paramedical tattoo rules in Ontario.

“We don’t fix texture, we fix color.”

Evelyn Alvares Vega, founder of SKINEAV

Health screening

  • Will they ask about your medical history, medications, pregnancy and skin conditions?
  • Will they ask about keloids and how you heal?
  • Will they tell you to see a doctor first when something is uncertain?

Colour and pigment

  • Do they test the colour on your skin before treatment?
  • Can they tell you which pigments they use?
  • Do they explain how pigments can change over time?

How it works at SKINEAV

  1. Photo or callSend a photo or book a free phone consult. Honest first answer.
  2. Assessment & colour testIn clinic, Evelyn checks your skin and tests a custom formula.
  3. TreatmentPigment placed precisely, only where it is needed, one-on-one.
  4. Heal & reviewThe colour settles over weeks; follow-ups are planned if needed.

Aftercare and follow-up

  • Do you get written aftercare instructions?
  • Who do you contact if something worries you during healing?
  • Is a follow-up planned to check the healed result?

Honesty

Ask what camouflage cannot do for your skin. An artist who promises your scar will disappear is not giving you an honest answer.
