Scar camouflage vs laser: which fits your scar?
They are not competitors as much as tools for different problems. Knowing which problem you have makes the choice clearer.

People often come to me after trying other options, or before deciding between them. Here is how I explain the difference. Always ask a doctor or dermatologist about clinical treatments; I can only speak to camouflage.
What camouflage targets
Colour. Camouflage adds pigment matched to your skin into a scar that is lighter than its surroundings. It does not change texture, height or width.
“We don’t fix texture, we fix color.”
Evelyn Alvares Vega, founder of SKINEAV
What clinical scar treatments often target
Many dermatological and clinical treatments focus on texture, redness or the structure of the scar. Which options suit you, and what they can achieve, is a medical conversation.
Real results and real moments

A simple way to decide
- Is your scar mainly pale against your skin and flat? Camouflage may be the more direct route.
- Is it mainly raised, dented, red or tight? Speak with a dermatologist first.
- Is it both? Some people address texture first, then come for camouflage once the skin has fully healed and settled.

Order matters
If you plan clinical treatment and camouflage, generally do the clinical treatment first. Let the skin fully heal, then consider camouflage. Tell me about any treatments you have had, and tell any clinic about camouflage you have had, because some treatments can affect pigment in the skin.
Frequently asked questions
Is camouflage better than laser for scars?
They target different things. Camouflage targets colour; many clinical treatments target texture or redness. Ask a dermatologist about clinical options.
Can I have laser after camouflage tattooing?
Tell the clinic about your camouflage first, because some laser treatments can affect tattoo pigment.
