C-section scar overhang: what camouflage can and cannot do
Many mothers notice a small shelf of skin above their caesarean scar. It is worth being clear about what pigment can change here.

The "overhang" or "shelf" above a C-section scar is something many mothers mention in consultations. Sometimes it is the main thing they dislike, more than the scar itself. Here is my honest view.
Shape is not colour
An overhang happens because of the way the scar tissue tethers the skin and how the tissue above it sits. That is a matter of shape and volume. Camouflage tattooing changes colour only. It cannot lift, flatten or tighten anything. Anyone who suggests otherwise is promising more than pigment can deliver.
“We don’t fix texture, we fix color.”

What camouflage can still help with
- The scar line itself, if it is lighter than your skin, can often be blended
- White or silver stretch marks on the lower abdomen can be included in a plan
- Reducing these colour contrasts can make the whole area feel calmer, even though the shape stays the same

Access during treatment
If the overhang covers part of the scar, I gently position the skin so I can see and reach the scar line. It is part of normal practice and nothing to feel embarrassed about.

When shape is the main concern
If the overhang bothers you more than the colour, talk to your doctor about options. Some clients address shape first, then come back for camouflage once everything has healed and matured.

Frequently asked questions
Can camouflage get rid of a C-section overhang?
No. The overhang is about shape. Camouflage changes colour only.
Can the scar under an overhang still be treated?
Often yes. The skin is gently positioned so the scar can be reached.
