Burn scars and skin grafts: what camouflage can do
Burn scars vary more than almost any other scar. Some areas suit camouflage well; others need a different plan. Every case starts with careful assessment.

After a burn, people often have more than one type of scar: the burn itself, a skin graft, and a donor site where the graft came from. Each behaves differently.
Burn scars
Burn scars can be flat or raised, pale or dark, smooth or uneven, often all within one area. Flat, pale, mature sections are usually the best candidates. Thick, tight or raised areas are not changed by pigment.
“We don’t fix texture, we fix color.”
Evelyn Alvares Vega, founder of SKINEAV
Skin grafts
Grafted skin often has a different colour and texture from the skin around it, and sometimes a patterned surface. Camouflage can sometimes bring the colour of a mature graft closer to nearby skin, or soften its border. The texture stays.

Donor sites
Donor sites, often on the thigh, can heal as a lighter rectangle or patch. When flat and mature, they can be good candidates for colour blending.

When to wait
Burn scars can keep changing for a long time. If you are still under the care of a burn team or using pressure garments, ask them first. I only work on areas that are fully healed and stable.
Expectations
Many burn cases need multiple sessions, and some areas may not be suitable at all. I will tell you which areas I think can improve and which cannot. More on the burn and injury scar page.
