SMP · What it is
What is scalp micropigmentation: soft density, not new hair growth
People type “what is SMP” when they see dotted scalp photos online and wonder if it is a tattoo, a transplant, or makeup. Here is a plain definition — and what it is not.

A short definition
Scalp micropigmentation (SMP) places tiny deposits of pigment in the upper layers of the scalp to create the look of closely shaved hair follicles or soft density. It is cosmetic colour work. It does not grow hair, move follicles, or treat the medical cause of hair loss.
At SKINEAV’s SMP page we use that framing on purpose: if you need a diagnosis or a transplant opinion, that sits with a physician or hair-restoration specialist first.
SMP vs transplant vs hair system
A hair transplant relocates living follicles. A hair system (toupee/piece) is removable coverage. SMP is a pigment simulation. Many clients use SMP alone for a buzz-cut look; others use it to soften transplant scars or add the appearance of density between grafts. Compare paths in SMP vs hair transplant.
Real results and real moments

Who usually asks about it
Men with a receding hairline or thinning crown who prefer a clean cropped look; people with alopecia seeking soft coverage; clients covering FUT/FUE donor or recipient scars; and some women adding the look of density at the hairline. See SMP for thinning hair, SMP for alopecia, and SMP for women.
What results cannot promise
SMP does not stop further hair loss. Colour softens with time and sun; touch-ups are normal. It will not recreate long hair. Scar tissue on the scalp may take pigment differently than virgin skin — that is assessed case by case.
