SMP for women: density without shaving
Most women who ask about SMP want to keep their hair long. That changes the technique, and the plan.

A different goal from the shaved look
For women, SMP is usually about density rather than a buzz-cut look. Fine pigment dots are placed between existing hairs, often along a widening part or at the crown, designed to reduce how much scalp shows through. Hair is kept at its current length.
Common areas
- A part line that has become wider over time
- Diffuse thinning on top or at the crown
- Temples or a hairline that has receded slightly
- Scars from procedures within the hair-bearing scalp

Shade and subtlety
On longer hair, the dots must sit quietly under the hair, not on top of it. Shade is usually chosen softer than the hair colour so it reads as shadow, not as ink. Women who colour their hair should mention it, because the plan should suit the shades they usually wear.
Health first
Female hair thinning can have many causes, from hormones to nutrition to medical conditions. A doctor is the right person to look into the cause. SMP is cosmetic and does not affect it, and it is best considered once you know what is going on.
