SMP aftercare: the first weeks and beyond
Good aftercare helps the pigment settle evenly. Here are the general principles. Your written instructions always come first.

The first days
Right after a session the scalp may look slightly red and the dots may look darker or sharper than they will once healed. General guidance usually includes keeping the area dry and clean for the first days, avoiding touching or scratching, and avoiding heavy sweating. Your appointment comes with specific written aftercare, which is the guidance to follow.
Washing, sweat and swimming
- Avoid soaking the scalp, swimming, saunas and steam rooms until the area has healed
- Avoid intense workouts that cause heavy sweating for the first days
- When washing is allowed again, use gentle products and pat dry
Real results and real moments

Shaving
If you keep a shaved look, you will be told when it is fine to shave again and how. Shaving too early can irritate healing skin.
Sun
Sun is the biggest factor in how fast pigment softens. Cover the scalp while healing, and once healed, many clients use a hat or daily sunscreen on the scalp.
The follow-up session
SMP is usually layered over more than one session. The follow-up is when density and shade are reviewed after healing. If anything looks unusual during healing, such as increasing redness, swelling or discharge, contact your doctor and let us know.
