Lumpectomy scars: gentle options once you are ready
After breast-conserving surgery, many people are left with a scar on the breast and often a second, smaller one in the armpit from lymph node surgery. Some never think about them again; others notice them every time they get dressed. If you are in the second group, here is what is possible, and when.

Your treatment comes first
Lumpectomy is often followed by radiation, and radiated skin changes: it can be drier, thinner, darker or slower to heal for a long time. Before any cosmetic needle work on the breast or armpit, your oncology team or surgeon should confirm the area is fully healed and that they have no concerns. SKINEAV does not give medical advice, and Evelyn will ask about your treatment history at consult.
What lumpectomy scars are often like
Surgeons often place incisions along the edge of the areola or in natural creases to keep them discreet. Even so, scars can be pale, pink, darker or slightly indented, and the breast shape can change where tissue was removed. Camouflage only works on colour, so it helps to be clear which of these things bothers you most.
Real results and real moments

Clothing, bras and makeup
Many people find a well-fitted bra, a slightly higher neckline or a swimsuit with more coverage is all they need. For a low-cut dress, a body concealer can soften a pale or pink line; set it well so it does not transfer. On radiated skin, choose gentle, fragrance-free products and stop if anything irritates.
Can camouflage help?
When the scar is mature, your medical team agrees, and the scar is paler than the skin around it, scar camouflage can blend its colour toward your natural tone. Results vary, especially on skin that has had radiation, which may hold pigment differently. Camouflage does not change breast shape or indentation. If areola colour or shape is your main concern, see areola tattoo vs scar camouflage and the breast surgery scar page.

What a session is like
Breast and armpit scars are worked on in a private room with draping. Evelyn tests colour carefully, especially on skin that has had radiation, and may start with a small area to see how it heals. Sessions are short and gentle. Expect a follow-up visit to refine colour; radiated skin in particular can heal more slowly and less predictably.

Frequently asked questions
How long after radiation should I wait?
Your oncology team is the best guide. Radiated skin often needs a long recovery, and they should confirm it is safe.
Can camouflage fill in the dent from a lumpectomy?
No. It is colour work only. Ask your surgeon about reconstructive options for shape or volume.
Is the appointment private?
Yes. It is one-on-one, by appointment, with draping so only the area being worked on is uncovered.
How do I find out if my scar is suitable?
Call 437-475-2757 for a free phone consult with Evelyn, or send clear daylight photos through the free assessment page. You will get an honest answer, including “not yet” or “this is not a good fit” when that is the truth.
