Stretch marks after breast implants: what helps and when
Breast augmentation stretches the skin quickly, and some people notice red or purple stretch marks in the weeks and months after surgery, often on the lower part of the breast. It can be upsetting after investing in a result you wanted. Here is what to know.

Why implants can cause stretch marks
The skin has to expand to accommodate the implant. When that happens faster than the skin can adapt, especially with larger implants, a tight skin envelope or skin that has never stretched before, stretch marks can form. They usually start red, pink or purple and gradually fade to pale lines over many months.
Tell your surgeon
Mention any new marks at your follow-up appointments. Your surgeon may want to know, and they can advise on scar and skin care. If marks come with pain, unusual swelling, redness or changes in breast shape, contact your surgeon promptly; that is not a cosmetic issue.
Real results and real moments

Covering them meanwhile
Most of these marks sit under bras and swimwear. For low-cut clothing, a body concealer with a green corrector underneath (for red marks) can help. Keep products away from incision scars until your surgeon says they have healed.
When colour matching may help
Once the marks have fully matured to white or silver, your implants have settled, and your surgeon is comfortable, stretch mark camouflage can blend their colour toward your skin tone. Pigment is placed very superficially in the skin and Evelyn will want to know about your implants and any planned revisions. Camouflage does not remove marks or change texture, and results vary. Red or purple marks are not ready.

What a session is like

Frequently asked questions
Will stretch marks from implants fade?
They usually fade from red or purple to pale over many months. They rarely disappear completely.
Is camouflage safe with implants?
Pigment is placed in the skin, not near the implant, but Evelyn will still ask for your surgeon’s go-ahead and full healing first.
How long after augmentation should I wait?
Until your implants have settled, incisions are mature and the marks are pale. For many people that is a year or more.
How do I find out if my stretch marks are suitable?
Call 437-475-2757 for a free phone consult with Evelyn, or send clear daylight photos through the free assessment page. She will tell you honestly whether your marks are mature enough and whether colour matching is likely to help.
